Teeth whitening product warnings

In fact, teeth whitening is a common thing in today life, but we should pay attention to something during teeth whitening procedure. Wrong action may lead to severe result.

Many patients who sit in a dentist's chair for 3 to 4 hours soaking their teeth and gums in tooth whiteners end up ingesting a boatload of toxins. Coal tars, fluorides, aspartame, aluminum and benzene top the list of popular toxins that are being ingested by consumers using teeth whitening products.

Teeth whitening product warnings are nearly impossible to heed. Some read, 'This product may irritate your gums,' and 'risk increases if the bleaching agent is incorrectly applied, as it should not come into contact with the gums.' Many of the toxic chemicals leak from the trays containing the whitening gel onto surrounding areas inside the mouth. Some products and dentists often warn that bleaching may 'heighten sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages,' but what they're really saying is that bleaching agents affect the nerves within the teeth.

Some dentists even offer to repair pulp damaged teeth because when pulp is dead or injured, the tooth will darken. To correct this problem, after a root canal is completed, the dentist actually fills the pulp chamber with bleach solution and covers it with a temporary filling. The costs of sealing carcinogens inside your teeth can vary, and most dentists charge between $300 and $400 per tooth.

Many of the trays and mouth pieces that soak the teeth for hours on end are now in question, especially the trays kept in the mouth over night. How can any human being reasonably avoid swallowing these teeth whitening chemicals while sleeping?

Currently, there is no research on the long-term effects of tooth whiteners, and since they are considered 'cosmetic' products, tooth whiteners don't fall under FDA regulation. What is also not being considered is the amount of bleach being ingested from so many other popular products. White bread, white pasta, white rice, white sugar, and white coffee filters all contribute to the cumulative effect of consuming carcinogens. Plus, consider into the toxic equation how often you drink fluoridated water and swim in chlorinated pools.

Also, although hydrogen peroxide is rapidly broken down in the mouth by saliva, studies show that in regards to teeth whitening procedures, at least 25 percent is swallowed, releasing free radicals into the body and stimulating the growth of cancer cells.

Smiling is a universal language that invites people towards us so you need those shiny white teeth to have a beautiful smile. But what if you do not have those white shiny teeth? While it is best to visit your dentist regularly for your dental health, services for whitening your teeth can be really expensive. Sometimes using just ordinary whitening toothpaste will not do the job for you alone and you need the help of your dentist. The costly dental visit is the main reason why people are looking for natural ways to whiten teeth naturally. Here are some of the ways to naturally make your teeth whiter.

In the olden days when dental services are not yet available, people are taking good care of their dental health using natural remedies. Back then there are no dentists and dental products like toothpaste. They are their own dentist and they use natural remedies. Today you can also naturally make your teeth whiter. Look around your kitchen and you will find all the natural ingredients to make your teeth whiter.

Regular oral hygiene and flossing. Of course the very basic oral care of brushing your teeth three times a day is the number one way to naturally make your teeth whiter. You do not know how food left on and in between your teeth can leave stain to your teeth so you better practice good oral hygiene. Flossing regularly can be very helpful to get rid of the food in between your teeth that can cause lasting stain on the teeth. If you do not brush and floss regularly, no amount of bleaching or teeth whitening treatment will give you shiny white teeth.

Fruits for whiter teeth. Fruits like strawberries are reported helpful if you want to naturally make your teeth whiter. Some celebrities claim that mashed strawberries when rubbed all over the teeth whitens teeth. Orange and lemon peels are also used by other people to whiten their teeth. Brush your teeth after a few minutes because the acid and sugar in the strawberry must be washed away to prevent tooth decay. It is important to wait for a few minutes before brushing your teeth because acids in fruits temporary soften tooth enamel and if you brush right away, the enamel will be brushed away too, so you need to wait for a few minutes for the saliva to do its work by protecting the enamel before brushing or flossing your teeth.

Baking Soda. Another amazing natural treatment that you can use to naturally make your teeth whiter is baking soda. Make a paste with small amount of baking soda mixed with water. Brush your teeth using the baking soda paste. It is important to know that baking soda granules are a little sharp so use in moderation because too much baking soda may damage the tooth enamel. Once or twice a week is enough to avoid tooth enamel damage.

Be careful when scrubbing your teeth with whitening treatments because tooth enamel can be damaged. Once tooth enamel is damaged, it cannot be restored. There are also products made to whiten teeth and can save you from the high cost of whitening procedures.

Ceramic Braces, Clear and Invisible Braces

Teeth are moved by many removable appliances, it mainly depends on the type of problem that one is experiencing. Each dental patient is unique and different, hence it is important know how bad is the condition of one's teeth. The orthodontist can evaluate this condition, and will recommend to use removable appliances if required. Fast braces are one of the appliances that is removable which can be used to treat your dental problems.

Fast braces are used to make crooked teeth straight and to align upper and lower jaws. They are also used for effective treatment for joint problems, popularly known as TMJ. Many people experience that their teeth are not growing evenly, or their upper and lower jaws are not of equal size, and also pressure from TMJ pain. If you are experiencing these problems, and bothered by this, it is stopping you from giving a wonderful smile. But now, with the available braces, your teeth can be straightened and your jaws can be aligned, and you can always have a beautiful smile on your face.

There are many kinds of braces available in the market. These are metal, ceramic braces, and clear braces. The metal braces are widely used and have metal wires and brackets. Just like metal braces, ceramic braces, also consist of brackets and wires, the only difference is that these brackets are ceramic made, instead of metal. And above all, the clear braces, which are custom designed braces that are now preferred especially by the adult dental patients. Adults who want to cure their teeth problems and improve the smiles have many choices now available to them, that includes clear braces, invisible braces and teeth effects bands. Most of the options, supported with the similar terms, can create confusion. For example, many people mix up words like clear braces, invisible bands and invisible braces or Invisalign dfw.

Clear Vs. Invisible Braces (Invisalign dfw)

Clear braces means just what the word suggests. They look like metal braces of traditional style, with brackets glued to each tooth front. These brackets are generally made from plastic or ceramic, which make them less noticeable compared to metal braces. Tom Cruise, the famous Hollywood film star, wore these braces.

Invisible braces, or Invisalign dfw, don't look like braces at all. They are plastic aligners in reality, or mouth guards. Patients are given new aligners once every fortnight. Wearing new aligner is like having your braces tightened. Each new aligner makes a step toward straighter teeth and a good-looking smile. Invisible braces are worn for a long time.

Those who want to reduce the gaps between teeth are fortunate. They need a third kind of treatment, called invisible bands, which correct teeth gaps. These bands are very cheap and quite easy to use. You can choose to wear the bands at night only. These bands work for few weeks.

Of course, braces are very useful to overcome the dental problems. However, you have to tolerate the inconvenience they can bring while you wear them. You have to stop thinking about the inconvenience and instead concentrate or visualize as to how you will look like after the removal of braces.

Why Take Care of Your Dentures?

Caring for your denture on a daily basis can heighten your sense of well being, and compliment your appearance. In addition, clean dentures help keep the tissues in your mouth healthy and free from unfavorable changes. Your dentures have been fabricated using high quality materials and it is extremely important that you provide them proper care to get the best service from them.

Regular cleaning using a 'soft denture brush' and warm water is the most effective and safe method to clean your denture.  If done on a daily basis this alone will probably keep your denture clean and free from damage.  If there are persistent accumulations, stains that are difficult to remove, or signs of plaque send your denture for professional cleaning and polishing.  After the professional cleaning  you can purchase denture ultrasonic cleaner to maintain the cleanliness of your denture.

Taking care of partial dentures

1.  Clean the denture daily using a 'soft denture brush' and warm water.  The use of non-abrasive denture cream is suggested.  Regular toothpastes are not recommended for daily use.  They may abrade and contribute to the loss of luster of the denture teeth and base.

2.  Clean your natural teeth thoroughly with a toothbrush, toothpaste, special toothpicks, or interdental brushes to remove plaque.  Do not forget to gently brush the parts of the gums that are covered by the denture.

3.  You should not wear your partial denture overnight.

Taking care of complete dentures

1.  Rinse your denture and your mouth without the denture with water after every meal.

2.  Clean the denture daily using a 'soft denture brush' and warm water.  The use of non-abrasive denture cream is suggested.  Regular toothpastes are not recommended for daily use.  They may abrade and contribute to the loss of luster of the denture teeth and base.

3.  Carefully brush the interdental spaces and the inner surfaces of the denture which come in contact with the mucous membrane, for about two minutes.  In addition, clean the tongue and palate with a soft brush.

4.  After brushing thoroughly rinse the denture under running water.

5.  You should not wear your denture over night.  This enables the tissue supporting the denture to recover.

6.  You should keep your denture in water when you are not wearing it.  Complete dentures may be immersed in a commercial denture cleaning solution.

7.  Rinse the denture under running water before wearing it.

Pure Power Mouthguard: Fact or Hype?

A new fad is sweeping professional sports: the Pure Power Mouthguard. The mouth guard is the outgrowth of a branch of dentistry known as neuromuscular dentistry. Neuromuscular dentistry focuses on a particular portion of the anatomy, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The TMJ is the joint where the jaw meets the skull, and, to hear the dentists tell, is the possible center of many complicated problems that can range throughout the body. They say that because the TMJ is a complicated intersection of muscles, nerves, tendons, and other soft tissues, problems located there can have far-ranging symptoms, including:

· Facial pain
· Headaches with migraine intensity
· Spine misalignment
· Pinched nerves leading to tingling in the extremities
· Shoulder, back, or neck pain

And, they say, as many as 30 of the population suffers from problems in the TMJ, known as temporomandibular joint disorder, TMD.

The Claims

The Pure Power Mouth guard's history began with a dentist who noticed that some of his patients, recreational golfers, reported increased performance following treatment for TMD. Because TMD can affect the position of the spine and can lead to muscle pain and stiffness, treatment of the condition can reverse those conditions, leading to an improvement over people's performance when they are suffering from TMD. Investigating the claims, the dentist, Anil Makkar, developed the Pure Power Mouthguard. Since most athletes wear mouth pieces anyway to protect their teeth, the transition would not be a hard one, and he eventually got amateur and professional athletes to try the new mouthpiece, and they reported improved performance.

The claims of improved performance are all over the website of the manufacturer and some dentists who supply the mouth guard. They tout a number of high-profile clients, including Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox, Josh Brown of the Seattle Seahawks, boxer Stevie Johnston, and kickboxer Mickey Marshall, in addition to weightlifters, bicyclists, hockey players, and others.

The Proof

Frankly, there is no proof. To date, no published independent study has verified the positive effects of the Pure Power Mouthguard. There is only the, admittedly sizeable, body of anecdotal evidence. However, the backers of the Pure Power Mouthguard have claimed that a study is forthcoming in July. They claim that the study was performed by Tufts University, with associated support from Harvard. They are also out in force, critiquing blogs that even imply that their product is not effective. They may even comment on this piece.

On the other hand, there is proof that similar appliances, also touted with similar claims, show no difference from placebos. At least three studies over the past 25 years have cast doubt on the effectiveness of orthotic appliances as performance enhancers.

What can be said about the claims of increased performance? Athletes are a notoriously superstitious demographic, and many of them do outrageous things that they claim improve their performance. Any minute edge, including a psychological edge, can be worth the investment of time and money for a serious athlete, and for those athletes suffering from TMD, the relief of negative symptoms is probably no small improvement.

If you are a high school or college athlete looking to go pro, the up to $2000 cost might be worth it, but most recreational athletes would be better off skipping it.

Is Tooth Whitening Bad for Your Teeth?

Tooth whitening is a procedure that has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. As part of the economic boom of recent years, people have had more disposable income, and they have chosen to dispose of it in search of a better appearance, including a better smile. And the first thing people look for is a whiter smile, because the other thing they've spent their disposable income on is Starbucks Coffee, leading to a discoloration of their dental enamel.

Along with tooth length, tooth color is one of the main determiners of a youthful smile. So now people are beginning to look to tooth whitening to turn back their apparent years, just as they are turning to Botox as a cost-effective solution for battling wrinkles. However, some people wonder whether tooth whitening is such a good idea as it seems, since in some forms it can actually damage your teeth.

Whitening Toothpaste

Whitening tooth paste seems like the ideal solution. After all, anyone who practices good dental hygiene will be brushing his or her teeth several times a day, so if whitening can be done at the same time, it would be ideal. It also seems positive because it can provide a gradual whitening effect that gives a whiter smile over the long run without calling attention to itself.

However, a person should use caution in selecting a whitening toothpaste. Some of the whitening toothpastes include harsh abrasive materials such as silica or aluminum oxide. The goal is to provide whitening by abrading away the stained enamel to reveal the whiter enamel below. This can provide good results for some people, but in the long run it is not a good option. Dental enamel naturally thins anyway as a person ages, and as it thins it becomes more susceptible to cracking and chipping. In addition, if your enamel gets thin enough, it can expose the yellowish dentin below the enamel.

Bleaching Compounds

Bleaching compounds are the other main way that teeth are bleached. Using chemical means, the stains are lightened. The most common active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, which can be delivered in several different ways. Whether you use a store-bought tray, a whitening strip, or get Zoom! tooth whitening at a dentist's office, you are probably getting whitening as a result of exposing your teeth to hydrogen peroxide.

The good news is that all of these products work to some degree, according to the American Dental Association (ADA). The bad news is that they also serve to widen the pores in your teeth, which can do many things. The main side effect of widened pores seems to be tooth sensitivity to heat and cold. Another possible side effect is that you may experience deeper staining in the future, and your teeth may be made more susceptible to decay as a result. However, all these potential dangers are theoretical and have not yet been confirmed.

Positive Whitening

Although there are no proven dangers to bleaching compounds, the ideal form of tooth whitening goes beyond just bleaching to actually whiten your teeth by strengthening the enamel. Our saliva naturally contains chemicals that build up the enamel of our teeth in opposition to the erosive processes of decay and damage. You can further help your teeth to rebuild themselves by using toothpastes that contain calcium phosphates. These compounds help your teeth to retain strength and enamel they would otherwise lose.

Why Opt for Damon Braces?

There are a multitude of advantages that one can get from Damon braces. If you want straight teeth and increased overall attractiveness in less the time, Damon braces prove to be a very wise option. But with all the other options that you have for braces, what makes Damon braces better than the rest? Here are some of the advantages of Damon braces over conventional and Invisalign braces.

Damon braces vs. conventional metal braces
Conventional braces remain to be the most popular option and the most widely used. This is probably because metal braces are the cheapest form of braces available in most orthodontist clinics. Since Damon braces is a relatively new technology and may be a little expensive, it is not offered by all orthodontists all over the world.

However, Damon braces have superior features that make them better off than conventional metal braces. This is because the Damon system features passive self-ligation which allows the wire to move freely. This lessens the friction and promotes low force, lessening the discomfort that is usually present with elastic o-rings in conventional braces. Damon braces are made of 60 ceramic composite making them more resistant to stains and usual wear and tear. Combined with stainless steel, this makes them appear smaller and more aesthetically pleasing.

Damon braces vs. Invisalign
Invisalign is another of the most popular advancements in braces. Invalisign is quite revolutionary as it is a way towards straight teeth without being conspicuous. These braces are considered as the ultimate cosmetic brace mainly because they have been designed to be virtually invisible. These aligners need to be replaced every two weeks, and you can remove easily them when you eat or anytime you want to. Though Invisalign is clearly a better option for those who would like to wear invisible braces (such as adults who are embarrassed to wear braces), the Damon system proves to have a few advantages over Invisalign.

Damon systems are able to promote straight teeth even in the most complex and the most crowded of cases. They are also capable of more expansion to achieve smiles that are broader and more attractive. Damon braces are also efficient in achieving straight teeth faster, with discomfort at a minimum. This usually also means that you will need to see your orthodontist less often as you would with conventional braces. In addition, with Damon braces you can enjoy straight teeth with fewer extractions. Damon braces are also more hygienic since they do not have o-rings which tend to trap plaque and bacteria.

There are many options now available if you want straight teeth. The choice is mainly up to you. Your orthodontist can discuss your priorities and preferences, as well as budget constraints along with the health and structure of your teeth to assist your in your choice. However, if you want a more comfortable and more efficient method of achieving the straight teeth and perfect smile of your dreams, Damon braces could be the perfect choice.
